Post Graduate Diploma Course (PGDC) in Thermal Power Plant Engineering - One year full time course is running since 1996-97 in different regional Institutes including NPTI-ER. Every year the course starts in August and admission to this PG course is open for graduates of full time B. Tech /B.E. or equivalent in Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation selected through common entrance test (CET) for which advertisement appears in leading national newspapers / Employment News in the month of March/April. The PG Diploma Course is having an exceptionally encouraging response and many Power Companies recruited this trained man power through campus recruitments over the years. This course is for fresh and practicing Graduate Engineers for a period of one (1) year.

The 4-year B.Tech. (Power Engineering) course being offered by NPTI is the first of its kind in India. The program is directed at the young aspirants who are looking for a bright career in the Power Industry, the backbone off all industrial activities. The program coverage includes the regular inputs generally provided in B.Tech., programs and lays special emphasis on Indian Electricity Act 1956, preparing skilled Engineering Executives for the Power Sector. This course started at Durgapur Institute from financial year 2002-2003 along with other institutes and approved by AICTE and affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). Admission to this course is open through WBJEE / AIEEE.

Post Diploma Course (PDC) in Thermal Power Plant Engineering- one year Full time Course is running since 2001 in NPTI (ER), Durgapur along with other Institutes for people with three years full time Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering. Every year the course starts in February and admission to this Post Diploma course is on merit basis for which advertisement appears in leading national newspapers / Employment News in the month of November/December.

Certificate of Competency in Power Distribution (CCPD) –6 months course offered by IGNOU in distance learning mode is running since January 2009 in NPTI(ER), Durgapur alongwith other institutes for Electricians, Tradesmen or at least 8th pass candidates. Main objectives of the course are to train, assess and certify the skills and competencies of electrical technicians enhance their quality and productivity through competency-based training and provide better industrial education linkage. The course starts from every January and July for which last date of submission of application forms is 30th November and 31st may respectively.
